The Alchemy of Translation: Philosophy, Computation, and Multilingual Thought

Farzad Mahootian is a Clinical Associate Professor of Global Liberal Studies at New York University, where he has taught philosophy, science, and humanities courses for over thirty years. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from Fordham and an MS in Chemistry from Georgetown.

His research centers on interactions between philosophy, science, technology and society, with special interest in the relevance of rhetoric, myth and metaphor to the history of philosophy, science and technology. He is currently collaborating on “Common Ground,” a bio-mimetic environmental art installation that integrates work in jewelry, alchemy, environmental studies, and history of science.
